Community Recap | March 15-17
Just like last weekend, we spent this weekend at an exhibition and a futsal tournament, getting word out about the club and helping promote our season, which is just around the corner. We also threw a radio appearance in on St. Patrick’s Day thanks to KTWIN, which had head coach Manny Lagos and a few players on the air from Kieran’s Irish Pub in downtown Minneapolis.
South Metro FC Futsal Tournament
A busy weekend started Friday evening at Farmington High School as South Metro Futbol Club got its 2013 Tiger Tune Up futsal tournament underway. With five courts going at once, it was a busy tournament, and we’re grateful to South Metro for inviting us to be a part of it.
We had a table Friday night with a TV and a Wii with a copy of FIFA for kids to stop and play while we talked with parents about the team and the FundRaise the Roof promotion, which we started last week to give clubs a chance to earn a portion of ticket sales during the 2013 NASL Spring season.
The highlight of the weekend came Saturday, when defenders Brian Kallman and Connor Tobin stopped by to play with the kids, taking on a few challengers on the Wii and playing some keepaway in front of the table, as well as signing some autographs and posing for a few pictures.
Home Expo
Saturday gave us a chance to get out in front of attendees at the Home Improvement & Design Expo at the National Sports Center, just a stone’s throw from NSC Stadium, where we’ll be playing from July 4 onward. Soccer balls aren’t known for helping improve a home, per se, but it was a great chance to get in front of potential fans and get the word out about the past, present and future of professional soccer in Minnesota. We’re pretty sure we found at least one new fan, pictured above.
St. Patrick’s Day
The St. Paddy’s festivities at Kieran’s Irish Pub gave us a chance to get head coach Manny Lagos and a few of our players out in front of revelers. KTWIN radio was also on hand and talked to our guys on the air about the team and season ahead. Here’s Manny and midfielder Aaron Pitchkolan with KTWIN hosts Lindsay Geuntzel and Mark Rider. Defender Justin Davis also stopped by for an on-air appearance.
