Preseason Notes: March 18-20
It’s been a week of preparation for Manny Lagos and his squad as the team prepares for a short trip to Omaha, Nebraska for weekend exhibitions. The team’s focus in training remains fitness; technical work, including lots of one- and two-touch passing; and finishing. To keep players moving, touching the ball and shooting a lot, training sessions have featured a lot of small-sided games. Here’s some other notes from the week so far:
Omaha bound
The players are set to report to the National Sports Center bright and early Thursday morning to board a bus to Omaha, Neb. for a Thursday through Saturday evening trip. The team trains Thursday afternoon after arriving in Omaha before taking on Creighton University Friday night at 7 p.m. at Morrison Stadium. Creighton was a 2011 and 2012 semifinalist in the NCAA tournament. Minnesota United defender Brian Kallman graduated from Creighton, and trialists Brent Kallman and Jose Gomez were part of those two semifinal sides. The team will also play a team of former pros organized by former Thunder midfielder Johnny Torres on Saturday morning.
