Minnesota United FC 0-1 Atlanta Silverbacks
In front of thousands of screaming fans at the National Sports Center Stadium in Blaine, Minn., the Atlanta Silverbacks managed to edge out Minnesota United 1-0.
Minnesota had the bulk of the chances and the possession throughout the contest, but Atlanta took advantage of a set piece, as Silverbacks defender Mike Randolph scored the game’s only goal from a cornerkick in the 22nd minute. United had chances to tie, many of coming from the head of striker Pablo Campos after well-executed build up play. Silverbacks keeper Joe Nasco was the difference on the night, making several crucial stops, including a goal line catch from a Connor Tobin header late in the game.
Similar to the Spring Season Finale, the game had its chippier moments, seeing several cards drawn, including a late straight-red from United captain Brian Kallman.
Calum Mallace, Sinisa Ubiparipovic, and Floyd Franks all made their Minnesota debuts, playing well in front of the home crowd for the first time. Minnesota kept the pressure on until the final whistle, but could not manage a breakthrough moment, as the Silverbacks held on through 5 minutes of added time.
Minnesota will be in action again next Saturday, August 10th in Fort Lauderdale to face the Strikers. Join us for our Official Watch Party at Brit’s Pub in Minneapolis or watch online at www.MNUnitedFC.com
